A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE Q-BASE SYSTEM

The Q-BASE program was started in New Zealand, by Telarc, the country's leading quality system certification body. Telarc has been active in the field since 1984. It was found that many smaller businesses were struggling with the cost and size of the ISO 9000 system, but were under some commercial pressure to implement it. After appropriate market research, a special certification program was developed to meet the needs of small businesses. This was named the Q-BASE program. The program was started in 1991, really got going in 1994 and by now is so successful it has spread from New Zealand to Australia, Asia, Europe, and North America.*
